RIYADH: The National Water Company (NWC) will supply 2.3 million cubic meters of water daily with 1,000 trucks at filling stations in Riyadh this summer, a company official said Monday.

Abdullah Alshaye, NWC’s acting manager for business unit, said that preparations for water and environment services have been made well in advance.

He said that the summer plans include periodic maintenance of water refining stations to ensure that they work to full capacity, in addition to transfer to new pipelines of different diameters and the detection and repair of leaks in the water network.

“Since the NWC took over the water division in Riyadh in 2008, water network coverage has increased from 86 percent to 97 percent,” Alshaye said, adding that the demand for water has been increasing due to the business and residential building boom in the capital.

According to him, NWC’s service centers are staffed with over 400 qualified Saudi employees, backed by field teams of more than 150 supervisors, administrators and monitors, along with 1,000 tankers at filling stations working around the clock.
