The Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) has closed down 14 furnished apartments in Jeddah city for violating regulations.

SCTA spokesperson Yaser Abady told Arab News that the commission was constantly monitoring furnished apartments in the city for their performance in terms of service and hygienic conditions and also for price control.

He said that furnished apartments must display their price lists and said six teams of inspectors were carrying out inspections in the city.

Last month, the SCTA had detected violations in 90 furnished apartments in Jeddah and imposed penalties on 46 of them for poor maintenance, besides closing down 21 furnished apartments for not possessing licenses and 23 agencies involved in tourism-related businesses.

Yaser Abadiy said that inspection teams comprise officials from the SCTA, Jeddah police, Jeddah Municipality and Saudi Electricity Company to monitor the condition of furnished apartments.



The inspections are aimed at ensuring safety and care for guests who stay at the apartments.

The SCTA official urged people to lodge their grievances on the commission's toll free number 19988.
