Fourteen pilgrims were injured when the bus in which they were traveling was hit by a truck on Thursday, said Capt. Ali Al-Zahrani, traffic police spokesman in Makkah.

The accident took place near the Qadid overpass along the Madinah-Khalais Road while the pilgrims were on their way to Makkah, Al-Zahrani said, adding that most of the pilgrims were Pakistanis.

He said a female pilgrim and the bus driver sustained serious injuries, while the remaining 13 pilgrims suffered only light or moderate injuries.

The injured were taken to Khalais Hospital by the Saudi Red Crescent Authority, which had sent its ambulances to the scene soon after receiving information about the accident, Al-Zahrani said.
