RIYADH: Two people were killed in collision between a train and a cargo truck at Al-Kharj on Thursday morning, the Saudi Railways Organization (SRO) said here on Friday.
The accident occurred when the truck tried to cross the track at the intersection of Al-Kharj, SRO Vice President Yousuf Al-Abdan said in a statement.
While the truck driver died on the spot, his aide succumbed to injuries in hospital shortly after he was admitted.
The police and other officials are investigating the case and the nationalities of the two victims is yet to be ascertained, he said.
“Saudi Railways Organization extends heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the family of the deceased,” Al-Abdan said.
The SRO has always reiterated the importance of vehicle drivers abiding by traffic regulations at intersections for their own safety and that of others, especially while crossing the railway tracks.
