Field inspectors of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry have uncovered some 45,000 adulterated Dettol packs in a warehouse located in a house in Deera District, central Riyadh, local media said.

The bust was made on a group of foreign workers who were reportedly involved in refilling Dettol bottles and putting up posters to advertise the adulterated product as the genuine item for sale in the market, the media said.

The ministry seized the bottles and destroyed them while those involved were apprehended.

In a related development, the ministry’s inspectors raided another popular house in Bathaa District used as a warehouse to store more than 15,000 fake ‘Nike’ sports shoes. The warehouse was run by foreign workers who were also called for further investigations.

The ministry had earlier announced the closure of a rest house in southern Riyadh where a group of foreign workers refilled Dettol bottles with liquid resembling the original product and pasted them with labels marked “Made in UAE” with the intent of marketing them in commercial stores. All 26,000 packs were destroyed.
