JEDDAH: Yahya Al-Samaan, assistant speaker of Shoura Council, said a number of Shoura members criticized the National Society for Human Rights. The Shoura members referred to approximately 5,000 cases out of the 12,000 it has received from citizens, which are yet to be addressed.

The issue came up during the 43rd session of the Shoura Council recently, during which the meeting discussed a report of the committee on human rights and other supervisory commissions.

The committee recommended hastening of the amendment of the commission system to strengthen its financial and administrative independence, and to provide financial incentives to attract competent staff.

The committee recommended that the commission puts in place mechanisms according to defined indicators and standards to monitor and follow up human rights cases across the Kingdom.
