JEDDAH: Shortly after the authorities released an American expatriate who was detained on suspicion of indulging in terrorism, another American was arrested on similar charges, leaving the total number of detained Americans in the Kingdom at six.

Over the past two weeks, 59 people from 10 different nationalities were detained after being accused of terrorism and state security offenses, the majority of them being Saudis.

The highest number of arrests — 13 — was recorded on Dec. 6.

Operations for these arrests began on Dec. 3. On the first day, authorities arrested eight Saudis and one Sudanese man on terror suspicions, while on the second day they arrested two Saudis. Three were people — a Saudi, a Syrian and a Yemen — were arrested on the third day of the operation.

On Dec. 6, security forces arrested 13 suspects, 10 of them Saudis and three Yemenis. On the following two days, authorities arrested three Saudi suspects.

On Dec. 9, another three suspects were arrested. They were an Indian, an Egyptian, and a Syrian. On Dec. 10 and 11, six suspects were detained. Of them, half were Saudis, while the others were Egyptian, Syrian and Jordanian.
