JEDDAH: The Ministry of Education has decided to rusticate students who appeared in a video abusing their teacher in a Riyadh classroom.
The students used rude language and showed a lack of respect for their teacher.
Based on a report submitted by the Riyadh Education Directorate, the central committee for students and teachers affairs at the ministry decided to ban the students from resuming their studies this year at their school or any other government school.
The ministry instructed the school to withhold the students’ results for this year, and instructed the Department of Supervision and the Department of Guidance at the Riyadh Education Directorate to follow up with the teacher and students as well as with the school where the incident took place starting next school year.
In an unrelated incident, Asir Gov. Prince Faisal bin Khaled called for the transfer of the case of the fallen awning in Muhayyil school to the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution in order to question all parties and hold those responsible accountable.
Media spokesman for the governorate, Saad Al-Thabet, said the final report from the governor held the contractor responsible for the collapse of the awning. This decision was based on the findings of the technical report as well as the department of buildings and the department of safety at the Muhayyil Education Department which failed to follow up on issues in light of the changing climatic conditions.
The report also calls for holding the school director responsible for failing to prevent students from entering the dangerous area and for not moving them to a safe location at the school.
The director of education in the province, his assistants and heads of specialized departments will be questioned about the correspondence received from the school director and measures taken in response.
