RIYADH: Police have arrested a 24-year-old citizen who appeared in a video carrying a weapon while threatening an Asian national, Riyadh police media spokesman Col. Fawaz Al-Maiman said.

The video went viral on social media, showing a man carrying a firearm and a belt of bullets claiming to have arrested a foreign national involved in smuggling domestic workers in the province of Wadi Al-Dowaiser.

According to Al-Maiman, the criminal investigation unit at the Wadi Al-Dowaiser police department managed to arrest the Saudi. Upon discussing the video with him, he revealed that he and his brother made a videotaped of a an Ethiopian who illegally entered the country. He said the worker used to work at their father’s home, and accused him of smuggling their household workers.

He admitted to owning the firearm that appears in the video and that it is unlicensed, noting he used it to scare the worker, but said the comments on the video are untrue, said Al-Maiman.

The citizen was arrested and handed over to the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution.

Al-Maiman revealed the video involves a number of violations, including the anti-defamation regulations by the uploading and publication of the video, as well as breaches of firearms regulations by carrying an unlicensed weapon. The citizen also violated work and residency regulations by employing and covering up for an illegal worker.
