JEDDAH: The Bangladesh International School Jeddah-English Section (BISJ-ES) has been holding a series of sports events this week to encourage students to lead healthy lifestyles.

The students of four houses Red, Blue, Green and Yellow from primary school to high school participated in various events, which started on Sunday and will end on Thursday. This includes relay races, football, basketball, gymnastics, badminton, a march-past contest, and scouts activities.

In a speech, Mohammed Abuul Baqui, the school’s new principal, said that the main aim of the sports week is to make students understand the importance of physical activities for a healthy mind and body.

He said the school is trying to provide the best facilities for the students, even though there is not enough space on the premises. He praised the teachers for their efforts to make the event a success.

Chief guest was Giashuddin Mahmood, vice chairman of the school, among the other prominent people who attended. Noor Taj, a student in grade eight, led the oath of sportsmanship, followed by the Olympic torch run by Mohammed Niyazul Islam, also from a grade eight class.
