Two brothers, Sobhi Batterjeee and Dr. Khalid Batterjee, founded the Jeddah-Batterjee Medical College for Science and Technology in 2005 with a mission to contribute significantly to society through unsurpassed medical education, community service, and research while maintaining Islamic values.

The dream project is located in North Obhour, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

A purposeful campus is designed and built to accommodate up to 5,000 students.

BMC received its first batch of students in September 2006 and thus attained the privilege of being a pioneer private educational institute in Saudi Arabia to deliver specialized medical education.

BMC also is labeled as one of the most advanced and largest private medical colleges in the Middle East, and has hired highly qualified international teaching staff while boasting the most advanced laboratories equipped with the latest technologies.

The college provides private hostel accommodation for female students as well as male students coming from outside the region.

More than 4,200 Saudis and international students from 27 other countries are acquiring knowledge and skills in this prestigious institute of Saudi Arabia.

A Virtual Hospital is also part of BMC’s excellence in medical education providing the students to acquire competencies in clinical skills, which is essential to deal with patients.

This virtual diagnostic, screening and treatment simulations are conducted on most sophisticated computerized manikins (human-like dolls).

BMC complex has its own state-of-art dental health clinic having almost 100 clinics (separate arrangements for male and female dental patients) equipped with latest dental equipment and services based on high quality infectious control protocol.

Medical education without research is useless. Therefore BMC established a Research Center that supports research in all medical fields.

Sports and physical fitness of students and staff is greatly cared by BMC.

A contract between BMC and Gold Gymnasium Jeddah has been signed to provide fitness services.

BMC is providing qualified coaching facilities to student in various sports and both male and female students have been participating in several sports events under the supervision of their coaches.

BMC Female basketball team won third place in 2013 Inter University Championship in Jeddah.

BMC always play a vital part in various community services events.

Our students and staff always take part in the Health Ministry’s activities.

Similarly, our students and staff join hands with Saudi Red Crescent and several consulates to provide voluntary services during Haj.

Several workshops and health education sessions are conducted in schools and shopping malls to raise awareness regarding health and promote healthy lifestyles.

GRADUATION CEREMONY:

Batterjee Medical College recently celebrated its third graduation at Sheikh Abdul Jalil Batterjee Hall, BMC.

The graduation ceremony was attended by a large number of officials from consulates, officials of various ministries of Saudi Arabia and families of the graduates.

The dignitaries and guests was warmly welcomed by Sobhi Batterjee, chairman of the board of trustees, Dr. Khalid Batterjee, vice-chairman of the board of trustees, Hassan Shaibah College, dean, vice deans and head of programs.

Sobhi Batterjee delivered a speech in which he recounted the success story of BMC.

He said: “Since its establishment, BMC has always been committed in providing a quality conducive academic environment of international standards without compromising Islamic belief.”

He also stated that a blend of theory and skills is provided to our students in the best forms of medical education technologies.

The programs offered by BMC are not only meant for filling the gaps of Saudi job and labor market but they also play a vital role in socialization process by effectively participating in building our society.

He said that the college has strategic expansion plans inside and outside Saudi Arabia.

He added: “BMC has achieved a lot since its establishment less than a decade ago. It has received the Award for the Best Educational Project in the Middle East and North Africa in 2010; also received the recognition from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER).”

He said: “In addition, BMC is proud to have professors and faculty members from 28 different Arab and Foreign countries that include: (America, Canada, France ... etc.), which definitely enriches the cultural and diverse learning environment of students. BMC currently accommodates 4,200 male and female students and is working on expanding its capacity to accommodate 20,000 male and female students in the near future.”

Dr. Khalid Batterjee said: “Today we are reaping the fruits of our efforts as we congratulate our beloved sons and daughters for completing a major part in their academic journey.”

He added: “They wouldn’t have been here today if not without the unlimited support of our government especially the Ministry of Higher Education, headed by Dr. Khalid Al-Angari.”

He encouraged graduates to contribute in building their country.

Dr. Hassan Shaibah said: “BMC has made great achievements in providing integrated educational programs, similar to those offered by international medical universities in the fields of medicine, dentistry and other health disciplines, through the continuous development of curricula, programs and the partnerships with local and international universities, most recently partnered with Maastricht University, Netherland to develop Medicine Program and other programs.”

He added: “BMC has accomplished a lot and one of its latest accomplishments was receiving the Okaz Award for Professional Excellence, and its active participation in the job fair which was held in Washington to attract graduates of King Abdullah Foreign Scholarship Program who hold the Master and PHD degrees. Furthermore, it has received the ISO 9001 Quality Certificate.”

He added: “This year’s batch reached 212 male and female graduates divided into 62 students from the medicine program, 27 students from physical therapy program, 32 students from Pharmacy Program, 24 students from Radiology Program, 21 students from Health Administration Program and 46 students from Nursing Program.”

Graduates were very thrilled and expressed their extreme honor and pride on this joyful occasion.

They said they would perform to their best of abilities and will for sure contribute in the development of their beloved country from all aspects.

The Saudi Ministry of Higher Education has formerly recognized BMC.

BMC is almost ready to apply for the National Commission first accredited the college for Academic Accreditation & Assessment (NCAAA).

In 2010, BMC was listed in the FAIMER and IMED.

FAIMER is the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research while IMED is the arm of FAIMER, which provides the formal listing of medical schools that are accredited by the appropriate international agencies in the country in which the medical school is located.

This formal listing in FAIMER and IMED enables our students to register and take the USMLE Step1, Step 2, and Step 3 examinations through the ECFMG, the Educational Committee for Foreign Medical Graduates.

This organization also certifies foreign medical graduates to participate in the National Residency Match Program (NRMP).

With this listing, BMC students are now at par with those students studying in the USand other countries, by virtue of listed in the FAIMER International Medical Education Directory (IMED).

BMC is listed in the Avicenna Directory (WHO Global Directory of Medical Schools) is the arm of the World Health Organization that provides the formal listing of those medical schools that are accredited by the appropriate international agencies in the country in which the medical school is located.

The official listing was added to WHO database on Dec. 19, 2009.

MEDICAL EDUCATION COOPERATION:

Within the framework of medical cooperation, BMC has signed various academic MOUs with a number of local and international universities to raise the quality of the educational process, which led BMC to adapt modern teaching methods and strategies, moving away from traditional educational methods and focusing on student-centered education, developing curricula and upgrading quality to meet high standards.
