RIYADH: Cordial and close bonds of friendship and cooperation, characterized by mutual understanding and deep fraternity between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia, were underscored during the International Migrants Day observed here on Sunday.

Expressing his sincere gratitude to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman for hosting 1.3 million Bangladeshi expatriate workers in the Kingdom, Golam Moshi, the country’s ambassador, said the day helps renew the commitment to migrants each year in enhancing the facilities and services of expatriate workers.

Describing his country’s relations with Saudi Arabia as historic and multifaceted, the envoy said it has received fresh impetus in the recent years. He expressed hope that the two brotherly countries would be able to engage more in tapping the human resources of Bangladesh to their mutual benefits.

He called upon all Bangladeshis to work hard to enhance the image of the country in the Kingdom and contribute to Bangladesh’s economic development.

Highlighting the significance of the migrants’ day, he underlined the need for abiding by the rules and regulations of the host country and refraining from all sorts of offenses.

The event, organized by the embassy in Riyadh, was held under the patronage of Moshi. The day’s program included recitation from the Holy Qur’an, reading out the messages of Bangladesh’s President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and Minister for Expatriate, Welfare and Overseas Employment, followed by a discussion.

A blood donation camp and free medical service program and cultural competition were also held for Bangladesh students.

Community leaders, officers and members of the staff of the mission, and more than 400 Bangladeshis living in Riyadh and nearby areas attended the event.

Forty pints of blood were collected from Embassy officials and Bangladeshi expatriates and more than 300 expatriates took free medical service.

Moshi distributed the prizes among the winners of the cultural competition.

A special prayer was held seeking prosperity and welfare for expatriates and for continued peace, progress and prosperity of Bangladesh. A special prayer was also held for the long life of King Salman and security and prosperity of Saudi Arabia and all Muslim countries.
