JEDDAH: A social observer at the Arar shelter succeeded last Monday in foiling a suicide attempt by a minor who tried to hang himself.

The juvenile was trying to use a piece of cloth to hang himself from a lamp on the ceiling of the facility when the supervisor rescued him, a local newspaper reported on Tuesday.

The Saudi Red Crescent and the police reached the spot and moved the boy to Arar Central Hospital, where his health condition was stated to be stable.

The competent authorities are expected to open an investigation as to what pushed the boy toward such an extreme act.
