JEDDAH: Anyone found guilty of promoting terrorism ideology will be jailed for 10 years and fined SR5 million, once the proposal to amendment the cyber law is cleared.

Crimes such as promoting terrorism, threatening the Kingdom’s safety and religious values, magic and advocating atheism will be punished with a prison term of five years and fine of SR3 million, local media reported.

The amendments, proposed by Shoura Counclil members Fayez Abdullah Al-Shahri, Awad Khazim Al-Sror, Jibreal Hassan Arishi and Abdulaziz Ibrahim Al-Harqn also include imposing punishments on the establishment or publication of content or material involving human trafficking and facilitating deviant sexual practices and behavior or prostitution.

The members have noted that the amendments should also involve criminalyzing the production or publication of computer viruses or transmitting them through the different information services. The punished proposed for this is a year’s imprisonment and SR1 million fine.

The shoura members stressed on intensifying the sanctions involving the anti-cybercrimes system to include the facilitation or management of the information services to hide the data and information concerning the activities of money laundering. The penalties suggested involve prison of three years and SR2 million fine.

Unauthorized entry into any of the information services means to delete data or information, cancel or destroy it, or change and reproduce it for publishing. This, according to the proposal, should mean four-year jail and SR3 million fine. The same sanctions will apply on unauthorized halting of the operation of any of the information services, deleting the programs and data, leaking information stored on it or destroying or amending it without official and formal authorization.

The members proposed using the phrase “information services” to refer to the services and applications provided by computers, information network, mobile and communication networks and the other means used to storage or transmit information.

The cybercrime will involve the use of the information and communication networks in illegal activities.
