JUBAIL: The Royal Commission for Jubail (RCJ) hosted a workshop about Comprehensive Care for Diabetics at the Maritime Club in Jubail Industrial City on Saturday. The event was organized by the Saudi Diabetes & Endocrine Association (SDEA), in collaboration with Mouwasat Hospital, the RCJ hospital and a number of other important hospitals in the region.

The medical workshop was attended by the director of RCJ's Health Services Program, Fahd bin Abdullah Al-Kharashi, as well as the Chairman of SDEA, the Head of Saudi Cancer Society (Eithar Society), and the Gulf Union Against Cancer, Abdulaziz Al-Turki, who praised the RCJ for hosting such a significant event.

In addition, more than 270 people working in the fields of clinical diabetes, nutrition, health education, and nursing participated in the event, including 150 doctors and nurses from the RCJ hospital alone.

The workshop aimed to highlight the importance of reducing the risk of diabetes by laying down the foundations for educating the community about diabetes, its risk factors and early detection systems, in addition to educating patients who have already been diagnosed with diabetes about how to manage the disease.

The medical event was divided into nine specialized scientific lectures related to the comprehensive care of diabetics, including diagnosis, medication, diet, exercise, and more general education.

Following the workshop, a discussion session on diabetes was held by some consultants in the field of diabetes and related diseases. Prominent speakers included Osama Al-Khateeb, Hussain Al-Tarifi, Ahmed Al-Khanezi, Bassem Fouta, Ramlah Al-Seif, Rola Qamorih, Yassi Shata, Ahmed Kurdish, and Hatem Aboul Ela.

The event also produced some major recommendations for better diabetes treatment systems in the Kingdom, including the use of a mobile unit for early detection of diabetes in Jubail Industrial City, the establishment of ongoing programs to combat obesity in men, women and children, the provision of low-fat healthy foods in Jubail fast-food restaurants, in addition to the continued organisation of accredited training courses for all health educators, nutritionists, and primary care physicians.

The RCJ hospital has stepped up its public health awareness programs recently by organising a number of medical seminars, and educational health workshops, including one regarding intensive care in pediatric departments in cooperation with the King Faisal Hospital and Riyadh Research Center. In addition, the new Jubail Health Program and the events of the Handwashing Day have been a huge success, along with many prevention campaigns and vaccination days.
