Conjoined twins were born to a Saudi woman in Makkah for the first time at a general maternity and children's hospital in the city.

“The twins are conjoined at the abdomen only,” said Najiah Al-Jaheri, leader of a team of doctors monitoring the twins.

“The surgery for delivery was performed within 45 minutes in the presence of a team of doctors at the hospital.

They are being closely monitored by medically integrated, multidisciplinary medical teams around the clock.”

The babies were placed on ventilators and later transferred to the King Fahd National Guard Hospital in Riyadh for separation.
