JEDDAH: The National Center for Cybersecurity is investigating electronic attempts to attack the government and local authorities through electronic mail messages.
The National Center for Cybersecurity announced its monitoring of these electronic attack attempts by e-mail messages (phishing e-mail) that aim to penetrate electronic devices and steal their contents after infected e-mail attachments are opened.
The center noted that electronic criminal investigation teams, sent to those attacked, are conducting assessments of the full nature of the attacks and will take the appropriate preventive measures. The center has also communicated with the relevant authorities and discussed security measures for protection.
Cybersecurity experts stressed the need for everyone’s commitment to safety standards and not to open suspicious e-mail attachments to electronic messages to avoid any damage that may occur from malicious programs.
Electronic security expert Dr. Abdul Razak Almorjan confirmed that the criminal investigation is still at its beginning, but there are signs that can be read.
The goal was to steal information from government agencies through targeted e-messages that require opening e-mail attachments (files or images), which then plant malicious programs in the file.
These malicious programs then enter the system and steal information, sending e-mails from reliable accounts to other accounts doing the same action.
