JEDDAH: The Criminal Court in Qatif has pronounced the death verdict against three Saudis and various jail terms and flogging for a number of other men involved in the infamous Qatif farm murder case.
Three suspects were, however, acquitted for lack of evidence in the case involving the brutal murder of five Asian expatriates in 2010, local media reported Sunday.
The court held one of the three death row convicts guilty of premeditated murder, saying that he deserves severe and exemplary punishment, thus bringing down the curtain on the two-year trial.
Sources were quoted as saying that the court had formed a joint committee consisting of three judges and presided over by the president of the court to conduct the trial.
The murder case had created a storm soon after the discovery of the highly decomposed bodies of the expatriates from a private farm in Safwa, Qatif in January 2014, four years after the killings. The owner of the farm stumbled on the bodies while doing some digging work and informed the police.
Following a thorough investigation, the Eastern Province police identified some of the bodies and arrested as many as 25 suspects, including citizens and expatriates, in the case within a month.
