An Indian man here is desperately searching for his brother Hasnain Iqbal, a 35-year-old from New Delhi, who has been missing for the past three months.

There have been accusations that the man disappeared because he owes people money.

Hasnain, who was working as a supply chain supervisor at the Riyadh branch of Al-Obeikan, went missing on Sept. 30, 2013, his elder brother Jawed Iqbal told Arab News.

The rest of the family in New Delhi are anxiously waiting for news about him, said Jawed.

Jawed said that Hasnain’s mobile was off and his e-mail and Skype accounts were not working.

“His friends in Riyadh have no clue where he is. When we contacted the human resources section of his company, officials there said he was not on duty that day [he went missing], and have no idea of his whereabouts.”

Jawed said Hasnain spoke to him the day he went missing and said he was heading to Najran to settle a business matter. Jawed said he has written a letter and faxed his brother’s passport, iqama and other details to the Indian Embassy in Riyadh.

An embassy official confirmed that the matter has been taken up. “The embassy has approached Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs and are waiting for a response,” the official said.

Hasnain was living with his wife and three-year-old daughter in Riyadh. His wife returned to New Delhi in early September because her father needed dialysis.

Originally from Bihar, the anxious family is optimistic that something positive would come up.

Several colleagues have accused Hasnain of deliberately running away because he allegedly owes them SR2.5 million. They have lodged a complaint with the embassy and the matter was referred to the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs.

Noshad Alam, one of his accusers, claimed Hasnain borrowed money for various reasons, including for investments and the medical treatment of his father-in-law. “Now he can’t be traced. People are naturally suspicious now that he’s disappeared.”

Alam said none of his friends has any proof that he left the Kingdom for India, but some claim he may be hiding in the Kingdom.

Alam, however, said that Hasnain’s wife was grief-stricken because of the situation.

Hasnain’s younger brother was also recently scheduled to get married, Alam said.
