MADINAH: A number of doctors and nurses from a hospital in Madinah province will have to pay SR31,000 as penalties for violation of rules, including poor services to patients.

Dr. Ahmad bin Ibrahim Al-Saghayir, deputy director of health affairs in Madinah, has approved the penalties, local media reported on Friday.

A committee looking into violations by health professionals set the fines after going through the cases. Likewise, it has ordered a doctor to pay a fine of SR10,000 for failing to diagnose cases accurately and communicate with the medical staff. A fine of SR3,000 will be imposed on a female doctor for failing to work effectively in her assigned department.

The committee has ordered a fine of SR3,000 against another female doctor for failing to deal will with a patient and refer the case to the attending doctor. In the same hospital, a fine of SR3,000 has been imposed on a doctor for prescribing medication without verifying the cases. A nurse as been fined SR2,000 for failing to deliver test results and measure the blood pressure of a patient.

The committee imposed also fine of SR4,000 on a consultant in a hospital in Yanbo for failure to follow up on an emergency case. A doctor specialized in ultrasound has been find SR2,000 in the same hospital for failing to diagnose a case, despite the presence of a previous ultrasound report. A consultant female gynecologist has been fined SR4,000 for late diagnosis of a patient.
