JEDDAH: Zaid Al-Sahli, a Saudi, who graduated from the Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering at King Saud University in Riyadh some 18 months ago, is yet to get a job, according to a local publication, on Sunday.
The newspaper quoted a report appearing on BBC news channel, saying Al-Sahli suffered due to deterioration in oil prices, which has forced oil companies to reduce the number of employees.
The report quotes Al-Sahli stating that he has lost all the hopes in view of the current situation, which makes him frustrated and has shattered all his dreams.
“After I got my bachelor’s degree I was so happy, but after a month and no job on the horizon, I began to feel like I was nothing, a person who doesn’t exist, or worse than that, sleeping about 24 hours a day at home. When the oil crisis happened and prices went down dramatically, every company I went to seek employment said they are in the process of firing their current employees,” said Al-Sahli.
The young man said he approached several companies, but all in vain.
“I applied online to more than 80 companies, with 150 to 200 e-mails, but with no response up till now,” he added.
He said even when he went in person to say, “here I am, employ me,” he didn’t get any encouraging response.
“I visited every job fair in Riyadh and the Eastern Province and when I would ask those responsible for the exhibition about jobs, they had a ready answer that there is no vacancy,” he said.
“I graduated a year and two months ago and am still unemployed. I don’t know what to do. I heard that another unemployed graduate burned his certificate, and I see no future for myself either,” he added.
