RIYADH: The bodies of a drowned couple have been recovered in Madinah’s Wadi Al-Baida by Civil Defense teams.

Madinah Gov. Prince Faisal bin Salman had ordered an extensive search in the valley. The teams included volunteer divers and other security officials, led by Sulaiman Abdullah Al-Amro, director general of the Civil Defense in Madinah.

A Civil Defense official said that the bodies were found two days apart last week. The nationality of the people has not been released, or the circumstances that led to their death.

Wadi Al-Baida is a picturesque place, situated 30 km northwest of Madinah, drawing thousands of local residents and pilgrims. Many city dwellers erect tents there for a few days, especially on weekends.

Earlier, the Civil Defense had urged citizens and residents to stay away from valleys because of the rainy weather, and not use their mobile phones to avoid being struck by lightning. The guidelines are at www.998.gov.sa and on social networking sites.

The Presidency of Meteorology and Environmental on Friday said that there would be southwesterly winds blowing toward Riyadh and the eastern and northern parts of the country, raising dust and reducing visibility.

According to the PME, this is being caused by low pressure in the Eastern Mediterranean and northern Saudi Arabia. Showers coupled with thunderstorms are forecast for Hafr Al-Batin, with a drop in temperature.
