RIYADH: The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRELIEF), founded by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman last year in order to respond to humanitarian crises, has announced plans to launch an e-learning program beginning in the next academic year for displaced Yemeni students.
The KSRELIEF has ratified an agreement and the program will take effect in the coming academic year, sources in the Education Ministry here said.
Under the agreement, the Yemeni curriculum will be taught in cooperation with the Yemeni Ministry of Education. Sources said that educational materials would be transformed into computer and television resources in order to facilitate e-learning, adopting distance learning methodology.
A local daily, quoting Saudi Education Minister Ahmed Al-Isa, said that the agreement signed Tuesday between the Yemeni government and the Saudi Education Development Company will provide e-learning opportunities for Yemeni students through distance learning and will be available to a large number of both male and female students living in camps inside Yemen or in the Kingdom and Djibouti.
These students will be helped to establish regular contact with their teachers through relevant websites that contain curriculum and teaching activities following the Yemeni syllabus, said the minister.
They will also have online exams and tests to keep them engaged and for assessment of their progress.
A similar program for students in the southern border area of the Kingdom has been a huge success and the education ministry has extensive experience of teaching students through distance learning.
The minister emphasized that the efforts made by the Kingdom are part of its keenness to extend support to those affected by the war in Yemen.
KSRELIEF is dedicated to international relief and humanitarian activities. It operates through a group of programs designed according to global models to enable the center to pursue the crucial role played by the Kingdom in relief and aid programs which offer support and relief to those affected by disasters, either natural or man-made.
The “Regaining Hope” initiative in support of the Yemeni people is a priority in the program and the center dedicates special attention to it.
