RIYADH: The Pakistan Writers Club’s (PWC) is playing an important role in the Kingdom by organizing various activities and also deserves praise for celebrating both Pakistan National Day and Saudi National Day, the country’s Ambassador Manzur Ul Haq here recently.

He was speaking at the induction ceremony of the new office-bearers of the PWC and its Ladies Chapter (PWC-LC). Abdul Rauf Mughal was elected PWC president.

“We as a nation have come of age and have made remarkable strides in the path of development. Pakistan has given a lot to each one of us and we should not complain and rather be thankful for what Pakistan has given to us,” Haq said.

The event started with the recitation of verses of Holy Qur’an by Zubair Bhatti and melodious Naat rendition by Almas Mumtaz, followed by the national anthem. Ashiq Hussain, former general secretary of PWC & PWC-LC, compered the program.

In his farewell speech, Faiz Al-Najdi, the outgoing president, praised the leadership of the new president, saying that the club was in safe and able hands. “There are many definitions of a leader and the best definition is that a leader is the one who produces more leaders. I am stepping down but am proud of the fact that I have been able to produce more leaders who can take the club to greater heights.”

In his acceptance speech, Rauf vowed to work hard to elevate the PWC’s image further. At this moment, he also remembered and praised the work and leadership of all the previous presidents of PWC.

A satirical and droll skit by Farah Ehsan, Madiha Malik and Rabia Amer was presented on the occasion. The skit depicted a re-invented conversation between Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, poet Dr. Iqbal and independence movement leader Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar.

Shumaila Zupash Malik, Tasneem Amjad and Prof. Gohar Rafiq delivered impressive speeches recalling the historical events and sacrifices made by the Muslims in the then British India that finally led to the birth of Pakistan.
