JEDDAH: A number of residents of Al-Qurayyat neighborhood in Jeddah complained about risks from the excavation drainage project under implementation by a contracting company and the National Water Company.

They said the ongoing situation poses safety hazards for their children, makes it inconvenient to leave their homes, and is an embarrassment before visitors and guests to the neighborhood.

Residents noted in a complaint that the deep excavations cause damage to their vehicles while leaving and entering the neighborhood, and are often left uncovered for several days at a time. They said they filed complaints directly with the company, requesting that they complete the project as soon as possible, but to no avail.

Ali Al-Jizani said the streets are often overly congested, as some small cars cannot pass because of the depth of these excavations. According to Ibrahim Ayesh, a number of people park their cars outside the neighborhood and walk on foot to avoid the traffic.

According to Bassam Al-Bishi, residents of the neighborhood have the right to enjoy a clean and safe environment, but the company still continues digging and excavating the site. Hamdi Saleh expressed grave concern for the safety of children in the neighborhood, who may fall victim to these deep holes.

Attempts to contact the National Water company for comment were unsuccessful.
