Surgeons here successfully fixed a patient's damaged eye socket, facial bones and replaced his artificial eye in a delicate operation recently. The demanding surgery was carried out at the dental and facial department at King Fahd Hospital. The patient, 42, had lost his right eye previously in an accident, with shards of glass piercing his socket and damaging muscles and facial bones.

Kholoud Musa, a face and jaw consultant, operated on the patient with help from doctors Ala Badaghish and Wael Murshid for over six hours.

During the operation, the patient’s artificial eye was replaced with the help of an ophthalmic surgeon. Taha Samman, director of the hospital, said the team made the hospital proud because this was a sophisticated operation requiring advanced skills and state-of-the-art equipment
