JEDDAH: A Saudi man shot his sister five times at her workplace in Al-Hamra district in Jeddah on Thursday because of a family disagreement, media reports said on Friday.

The woman, 27, had been living in a Ministry of Social Affairs shelter, which had provided her transport to and from work. She was a manager at her company.

According to the report, the man entered the women’s department at the company, shot his sister at point blank range and fled the scene. She died of her wounds on the way to hospital.

In a complaint filed at the Al-Nazlatain police station 48 hours before the shooting, the woman’s driver had reported that he had seen the man following their car several times.

Capt. Fahad Salem Al-Malki, acting spokesman of the Makkah police department, said detectives had gathered evidence at the crime scene and interviewed witnesses.

Abdullah Al-Tawi, director general of the social affairs ministry in Makkah, said the woman had been staying at the shelter for some time.

She had left her home outside Makkah after a disagreement with her family, and had been receiving psychological counseling and other support.

The ministry had found her a job with a local company, and provided her with a special driver to transport her between the shelter and work, said Al-Tawi.
