MADINAH: A full investigation is under way at the New Khabir General Hospital following a complaint against the hospital for negligence in the death of a male infant.

The mother was in labor with twins and the first baby was delivered normally.

There was evidently a problem and the doctors decided on a caesarean section but the anaesthetist was not at work and his delay in coming to the operating room resulted in the second infant’s death.

“At 1 a.m., I brought my wife who was in labor to the emergency department of the hospital,” said Badr Al-Rashidi.

“The first child was delivered normally but then the doctors decided a caesarian was necessary so my wife was transferred to the operating room.

The anaesthetist was not present and the doctors waited for 90 minutes until he showed up. The delay led to the death of the second baby.”

According to him, it was the anaesthetist’s being late and the hospital’s negligence that led to the death of his baby.

“Thank God, my wife, who suffers from renal failure, survived,” he said. “I will continue to follow up with my complaint and will go to those who are responsible.”

He said he had appealed to the health minister to investigate the case which is clearly one of negligence.
