RIYADH: The dream of a Sri Lankan expatriate to build a house for his daughter back home will now be fulfilled by the company he was working for, even though he is no more.

Mohamed Arshad, 31, who had come to work here three years ago with the sole intention of constructing a house, died following a brief illness in a Riyadh hospital some time back. He was working for Nesto, a chain of supermarkets, as a baker and was the sole breadwinner of his family. He is survived by his daughter Fathima Ayesha, 13, and wife Fathima Anisa.

In a rare gesture, Nesto compensated his family with SR50,000 to construct his dream house.

After handing over a cheque for the above-mentioned amount to Sri Lankan Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Mohamed recently, Nesto’s business development director Abdul Naser told Arab News that the management came forward to help the deceased worker’s family. “We are happy that Arshad’s family will now be able to fulfill his dream for a house for his daughter.”

The Lankan envoy said, “Such gestures will definitely make other workers feel secure at their workplace, and they will be loyal to their companies.”

Mohamed Niloufer, chairman of Nesto, was also present at the cheque-presentation ceremony.
