RIYADH: The General Directorate of Traffic has implemented a Kingdom-wide plan, particularly in Makkah and Madinah, for the smooth flow of traffic in Ramadan.
Maj. Gen. Abdullah Al-Zahrani said traffic departments in all regions and cities of the Kingdom and its provinces had been directed to activate traffic plans for Ramadan and for the whole summer.
In Makkah, he said the traffic plan was implemented on the 25th day of Shaaban with 965 personnel supervised by 76 officers facilitating the smooth flow of traffic to the Grand Mosque and regulating traffic flow to the car park.
“The plans for other cities and provinces cover the respective mosques during Isha and Taraweeh prayers throughout the month of Ramadan.
The traffic police will also be on duty at all commercial complexes, roads, streets and intersections during peak hours of traffic."
At the same time, the Directorate of Civil Defense in Madinah has completed a detailed plan to maintain the safety of pilgrims and visitors to the Prophet’s Mosque and to deal with emergency situations thouhgout the month of Ramadan.
The Civil Defense plans are being implemented under the direct guidance of Madinah Gov. Prince Faisal bin Salman.
The Director of Civil Defense in Madinah General Mansour bin Juhani said that the plan, which has the support of the governor , includes full readiness to face potential risks that may occur in times of emergency during Ramadan.
Juhani said that the plan was being implemented by a team of officers from a network of seven units who are responsible for the central part of Madinah, the areas in the vicinity of the Prophet’s Mosque, roads leading to the mosque and the nearby shopping malls.
