JEDDAH: A Saudi family of six was among the victims of the Istanbul airport bombings. It was on their first visit to Turkey, a trip they had planned for more than a month.
Upon their arrival on Tuesday evening, and while waiting to receive their luggage, the father, Taher Misfer Al-Maliki, contacted his brother Khaled to confirm their arrival in Istanbul. The call took place only minutes before the terrorist blast.
A number of people died, including Taher Al-Maliki and his eldest son, Misfer. The rest of the family sustained injuries.
Rinad Taher Misfer told her relatives that the only thing she remembers was hearing one person telling them to run. She fainted while trying to flee the place and was taken to hospital. Her condition is now stable, and she will leave the hospital on Friday, according to her relatives.
As for the rest of the family, Al-Maliki’s relative, Riaz said: “Haifa, the wife of Taher Al-Maliki, is in stable condition, and the two children, Jawad, 12, and Battal, 4, are receiving treatment, while the eldest son Misfer, a disabled 17-year-old, was missing and was later confirmed dead.”
The Saudi Consulate in Istanbul has confirmed the deaths of three Saudis. No Saudi is missing. The mission asked Saudis in Turkey, or those coming, to contact them in case of failure to locate their relatives.
