RIYADH: The international enrichment program for summer 2016 kicked off in the capital recently with the participation of more than 350 male and female students, according to King Abdulaziz and His Companions' Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba).
According to Mawhiba Deputy Secretary-General Dr. Adel Al-Qaeed, the foundation is eager to improve the quality of its programs and build a base for a talented and creative community that supports a knowledge-based society in the country by sending talented students to the best universities in the world.
He said that communication with universities took place ahead of the program to ensure their enrollment in the best universities worldwide. They will pursue academic and research-oriented programs in their placements.
He said that this program focuses on the latest technology to support the National Plan for Science, Technology and Innovation, as well as providing participants the basics of scientific research and ethics.
Dr. Mohammed Al-Fawzan, general supervisor of the program, said that there was a 12 percent increase in the number of participants this year compared to last year, while the duration of the program has been extended from three to eight weeks.
A total of 30 placement programs are held in the most prestigious universities in the United States — including the University of Columbia, Stanford University, Johns Hopkins University and MIT — as well as in Canada and Ireland, targeting first-grade and secondary students in scientific fields in addition to various social, cultural, sports and recreational fields.
