JEDDAH: A Grade XII student of the International Indian School in Jeddah (IISJ) succumbed to his injuries, sustained in a road accident, in a hospital here on Sunday.

Fawaz Ismail, aged 18, whose parents come from the Indian state of Kerala, was walking home when he was knocked down near the famous Bicycle Roundabout on Friday.

He was rushed to the nearby Irfan Bagedo Hospital, but doctors’ efforts to save him proved futile.

Ismail was a popular football player in the school. The school has canceled all cultural items that were to take place on Tuesday as part of India’s 67th Republic Day.

Consul General B.S. Mubarak will, however, unfurl the Indian flag on the school campus at 9.30 a.m. and read out excerpts from the Indian president’s message to the nation.
