RIYADH: A motorist and four of his friends, who fled the scene after an accident, were arrested in Riyadh on Wednesday.

According to an official of Riyadh police, the driver of the vehicle hit a column of the Kubera bridge, which is only three miles from the city center of Batha.

When a police officer approached the vehicle, the gang tried to assault him.

On realizing their inability to resist police, the five fled the scene in the same car they were traveling and police pursued them.

During the chase, the five parked the car and hid in a house. The owner of the house resisted police entry and started throwing stones at the police car to chase them away.

With reinforcement, police were able to arrest the five and those who threw stones at the officers.

On inquiry, police found that the arrested five persons were drunk and they were traveling in a car which did not have a license plate.

During the scuffle between the two parties one of the police officers and one among the gang were injured; both are out of danger, police said.

Police are conducting further inquiries to find out whether the gang members were involved with other groups for any criminal offenses.

On completion of an inquiry, the suspects will be brought before a court of law for necessary trial and punishment.
