JEDDAH: A court in Jeddah has sentenced an expatriate to five days in jail for beating up his wife.

According to the lawsuit, the wife said her husband had threatening her with a knife and hit her, resulting in bruises on her feet and shoulder, according to a media report on Monday.

The man abused her verbally and hit her head against wall in a dispute following some financial dispute, according to the woman.

The man has however denied all the charges of hitting his wife or threatening her.

He claimed that they had disagreement over her alleged irresponsible behavior, including encouraging her children to disrespect him.

In addition, he claimed she hid away documents related to his work, and deeds and checks. He however admitted that he forcibly stopped her when she tried to leave the house to complain to neighbors.

The woman was found to have several bruises on her body that were supported by a medical investigation too.

The Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution conducted an investigation and referred the matter to court, which decided a five-day jail for the "erring husband."

There were no appeals against the prison sentence, according to the report.
