Library Celebration Week kicked off at the kindergarten (KG) section of the International Indian School of Dammam (IISD) recently.

E. K. Mohammed Shaffe, school principal, inaugurated the weeklong activities at a colorful ceremony.

Principal in-charge, Lt. Col. J. A. Rocque; vice principals Dhanalaxmi Ramanujam and Mehanaz Fareed; deputy controller of examinations, Najma Nakhat; and chief librarian Nazeer Maniyamkulam graced the occasion.

During the event, each KG class was given a story theme as teachers and students depicted different characters from a particular story with decorated doors and pictures.

Upper-KG students were encouraged to read and enjoy books. A pictorial collage of students holding their favorite books was also displayed.

Children showed their skills in read-aloud sessions, learning that books can introduce people, places and ideas in an easy way and help them in describing familiar experiences.

A mini book fair was also organized as part of the inaugural event, with a wide range of books and a lower-KG project entitled “How I Spent My Holidays,” on display.

The kids enjoyed the fair by picking out books of their choice, varying from science to spooky stories, from puzzles to poems, and from fiction to factual accounts.

Headmistress Sabina Sajid said parents need to get their kids excited about reading from the kindergarten level. Librarian Sheena Prasad and a team of teachers, including Vijayalakshmi, Sarah Firdous, Sara Noushad and Ayesha, coordinated the event.
