RIYADH: More than 100 volunteers from the Indian community, including women, donated blood at the King Khalid University Hospital (KKUH) in Riyadh last week.

The blood donation camp was organized by the Riyadh Indian Association (RIA) on its 16th Anniversary in conformity with the World Health Organization’s “Share life, give blood” campaign.

The theme of this year’s World Blood Donor Day is “Blood connects us all.” It focuses on thanking donors and highlights the dimension of sharing and connection between blood donors and patients. In addition, the slogan “Share life, give blood” has been adopted to draw attention to the roles voluntary donation systems play in encouraging people to care for one another and promote community cohesion.

The campaign aims to highlight stories of people whose lives have been saved through blood donation, to motivate regular blood donors to continue giving blood, and motivate people in good health who have never given blood to begin doing so, particularly young people.

RIA president Mohan Ponnath, Secretary Shaikh Abdullah, Mathew Idikula (Monichen), Cleetus, Jayachandran, Aleas and Sherin Joseph co-ordinated the event.

The RIA team appreciated the sincere efforts of the KKUH blood bank staff, supervisor Latheefa, for making all the arrangements to make the campaign a grand success.
