JEDDAH: Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir asserted that the Muslim world rejects Iranian policies, its intervention in the affairs of other states, its support for terrorism and efforts to establish militias in different countries, which destabilize these countries.

“The communiqué issued at the end of the summit organized by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Istanbul, Turkey, condemns these actions and support of terrorism and extremism, and Iran must change its policies and adopt principles of good neighborliness, not intervene in the affairs of others, and follow international conventions and laws,” he said.

He talked about the deep relations between Saudi Arabia and Turkey and the uniformity in views on many issues between them. He said relations between the two advanced in recent years and were crowned by three visits of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Saudi Arabia and the historic visit of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman to Ankara and Istanbul.

In an interview to a Saudi TV channel on the sidelines of the OIC Summit in Istanbul, Al-Jubeir said that the visit of the king to Turkey was successful and included the signing of an agreement for the establishment of a coordination council between the two countries on a number of levels, including political, diplomatic, media, cultural, investment, trade, military and security.

Al-Jubeir said he hopes these will contribute to raising the level of relations even further to become a strategic partnership.

“The speech of King Salman focused on the importance of Islamic solidarity and unity to confront extremism and terrorism, to find a solution to the Palestinian issue that leads to the establishment of a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, the importance of adhering to the principles of good neighborliness and noninterference in the affairs of other countries, and the importance of activating the OIC to be of better service.”

Al-Jubeir said the Islamic Military Alliance is a voluntary alliance of 40 countries. “Afghanistan is the latest to join the alliance to confront terrorism and extremism. Coordination between Islamic countries is essential to face and eliminate the scourge of terrorism which poses danger to the whole world and whose ideas are in contravention of the principles and values of Islam.”
