TABUK: The Saudi Embassy in Baghdad is the target of a media vilification campaign, Saudi Ambassador to Iraq Thamer Al-Sabhan has alleged.
In a tweet on his official Twitter account, Al-Sabhan said: “There is a media campaign targeting the embassy, and we are confident that our brothers in Iraq are aware of it. The Kingdom has never given up on the Iraqis, and this (campaign) is a clear sign that we are on the right track.”
Iraqi Shiite militias have demanded that the government explain the visit of a representative of the Saudi Consulate in Baghdad to Al-Naseriya prison to meet with Saudi prisoners. They claimed the representative did not approval from the government for such a visit, and asked Prime Minister Haidar Al-Abdadi to clarity his position on the matter.
The Iraqi Ministry of Justice replied that the Saudi diplomatic visit to Saudi prisoners came as part of international human rights visits approved by Baghdad.
The Ministry of Justice, in an official press statement, said the Saudi representative was accompanied by representatives from the department of prisons, national security, and intelligence, and it was a short and thoroughly monitored visit.
Meanwhile, the Sunni Arab Coalition expressed concern about a repeat of the displacement of Al-Fallujah families and lack of approval for them to return to their families after the city's liberation from Daesh. House Speaker Saleem Al-Jabouri blamed unnamed parties for seeking to maintain the current situation and complicate matters regarding the return of displaced people, and called for quickly securing the return of families to their homes.
The Ministry of Migration and Immigrants, meanwhile, came out with the latest figures of displaced families in Al-Fallujah, Al-Saqlawiyah and surrounding areas.
