Some 67 cases of irregularities related to public funds, valued at SR5.6 billion were detected in a number of government agencies and referred to the Chamber of Grievances last year, local media said, quoting the General Auditing Bureau (GAB).

Meanwhile, the bureau said it was participating in the hearing of these cases in a bid to redress irregularities which are incompatible with the applicable systems.

This participation is in line with its role of preserving public funds, the bureau said.

The GAB complained that some senior officials in government agencies are not showing due concern over reports and remarks made by the bureau on certain irregularities.

This negligence, it said will make officials miss the opportunity to put an end to the irregularities and bring the people responsible to book.

The GAB also stressed that the senior official in any government agency should read and take appropriate action on any remarks made by the bureau.
