RIYADH: Everyone is duty bound to work for sustainable development toward maintaining a conducive environment for human life, Prince Bandar bin Saud bin Mohammad said here on Thursday.

Prince Bandar, who is the president and chairman of the Board of the Saudi Wildlife Authority, was speaking on the eve of World Environment Day.

The Kingdom joined the world on Friday in observing the day, the theme of which was “Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care.”

The prince said that Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Muhammed bin Naif, deputy premier and minister of interior, are keen on sustainable development for a healthy environment and maintaining an ecological balance in the country.

The prince explained that sustainable development means not only careful use of natural resources, but also creating a sense of responsibility in all segments of society on the importance of conservation of natural and environmental resources.

“Everyone has an important role to play with rational use of natural resources and avoiding engagement in negative efforts such as cutting down trees as well as activities that are harmful to the environment,” he said.

The prince said the day aims to inform and educate local communities and decision makers of the great importance of sustainable development and to have a focus on sustainable consumption, production and efficient use of resources.
