JEDDAH: The Kashmir Committee, Jeddah chapter, has said that it urged Pakistan to launch projects in Azad Kashmir for the uplift of the economically less fortunate section of society in the area.
The appeal was made by Muneer Gondal, the general secretary of the committee, and supported by Masoud Ahmed Puri, president of the panel, during a meeting with Pakistani Consul General Shehryar Akbar Khan here recently.
Sharing the details of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC) visit to Pakistan from May 8 to 12, Khan said the OIC delegation called on the Pakistan president, adviser to the prime minister on foreign affairs and the minister for Kashmir affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The delegation also called on the prime minister of Azad Kashmir in Muzaffarabad, he said.
The delegation held meetings with the chairman and members of the special committee of the National Assembly on Kashmir and the representatives of the All-Party Hurriyat Conference, besides visiting the Line of Control at Chakothi where they were briefed about loss of civilian lives and property by “repeated firing from the Indian forces.”
The committee said the OIC visit has sent a strong message of political support to the oppressed people of Indian Occupied Kashmir. It thanked Abdullah Al-Alim, the special representative of the OIC secretary-general on Jammu and Kashmir, for leading the delegation.
The OIC team included senior officials of the OIC Secretariat, Islamic Solidarity Fund (ISF), Islamic Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) and Islamic Development Bank (IDB).
