Prince Charles, heir to the British throne, arrived in Riyadh on Monday for a three-day visit, which will include talks with Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah and a tour of historic sites in the Kingdom.

“Prince Charles arrived Monday night and immediately left for a private dinner,” said Eva Omaghomi, a spokeswoman of Clarence House who is traveling with the prince.

Omaghomi could not provide the itinerary of Prince Charles during his stay in Riyadh, but sources said that “Saudi-British relations and prospects of further cooperation” would be discussed during meetings between Prince Charles, high-ranking Saudi officials and royal family members, including King Abdullah.

Both sides are expected to tackle international issues, Mideast peace efforts and regional developments, with special emphasis on the Syrian crisis.

The Prince of Wales was welcomed by Prince Miteb bin Abdullah, National Guard minister, upon his arrival at Riyadh’s airport.

Prince Charles’ four-day trip to Saudi Arabia and Qatar comes just under a year since he last toured the two nations. Most of the engagements on his tour are private, but there will be some public events, including a tour of a historical site in the Kingdom.

“The Prince of Wales’ return to the region only a year after his last visit demonstrates the importance the British government places on its association with key partners in the area,” said Sir John Jenkins, the UK’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, in a statement released on the occasion.
