RIYADH: Patronizing the closing session of the fourth awards ceremony of the King Saud University Prize for Scientific Excellence Prize, Riyadh Gov. Prince Faisal bin Bandar said the prize winners would also contribute to achieving the Kingdom’s 2030 goals.
The session was held at the university’s Sheikh Hamad Al-Jasser Hall.
Congratulating the students, the governor said facilities and services were available in the Kingdom to support the forward march of those interested in achieving the 2030 goals.
Twenty-four winners from various faculties received their awards which included publishers, researchers and contributors to the magazine on science and nature.
KSU Rector Dr. Badran bin Abdulrahman Omar said that this year the awards ceremony became especially important because of the 2030 vision.
He pointed out that KSU had excelled in scientific research in several areas beneficial to the country’s economic and social development. He also thanked the Ministry of Education for funding several research projects by the university.
The rector pointed out that the during this year, the KSU had issued 233 patents. In 2015, it published 3,500 research papers, up 20 percent over the previous year.
The King Saud University Scientific Excellence Prize was established by the university to honor distinguished faculty members, researchers, and students within a spirit of scientific competition and further promote the standards of scientific research.
The prize is given annually and seeks to pave the way to a distinguished, outstanding, and innovative scientific research environment.
The motivations for initiating such a prize are to serve the first objective of KSU 2030 Strategic Plan related to research quality and excellence by raising the academic and scientific standards of research to serve the community, to contribute to excellence in various scientific fields and to serve the various initiatives in the strategic plan programs, especially the faculty member-related initiative, which emphasizes the increase of compensation and the improvement of support given to them.
One of the objectives of this initiative is to provide faculty members with a supportive and stimulating environment conducive to increasing their performance and their research output.
