RIYADH: Doctors at King Fahad Hospital in Madinah have been accused of performing an incorrect operation on a 17-year-old girl.

Members of the family say the doctor who made the diagnosis and carried out an appendectomy now refuses to meet with them, so they have been forced to highlight the case on Twitter, according to a report in a local publication on Monday.

Abdulrahman Al-Aqeil, a relative of the girl, was quoted as saying that when she had complained of feeling sick she was taken to the hospital where doctors decided to perform the procedure. However, when she went home, she complained of the same pain as before and her health started to deteriorate, he said.

When she was taken back to the hospital, doctors placed her in the intensive care unit where she fell unconscious. After tests and x-rays, it turned out that she did not have inflammation of her appendix, which was the diagnosis of the hospital staff, claimed Al-Aqeil.

“We tried to speak with the treating doctor, but he wouldn’t see us. We went to the administration to see the hospital’s director to find out what was happening with the girl, but the administration refused to see us or disclose any information about her health,” he claimed.

Al-Aqeil called on the Minister of Health to intervene and launch an investigation into the matter. He claimed the girl’s life is in danger because of the alleged mistake of the doctors.
