The Memon Federation and World Memon Organization honored a community worker for his social responsibility projects here recently in Jeddah.

The organizations held an iftar at a local restaurant to recognize the work of Iqbal Memon, vice-president of the All India Memon Jamat Federation, an organization established in 1971 in Mumbai with 472 groups across India.

More than 150 local and foreign guests including Mohammed Chapra and Arif A. Ghaffar, president of the Pakistan Opleta Memon Jamat, attended the event.

Arif Memon, president of the Memon Welfare Society (MWS) in Saudi Arabia, welcomed the guests and introduced Iqbal Memon to the attendees.

Iqbal Memon praised the MWS for services rendered to workers here. He said Memons are kind hearted and helpful by humanity by nature, which was a gift from Allah Almighty.

The MWS gave him a plaque for his services to the community.

Tayyab Moosani, general secretary of the MWS, presented a performance report of the organization for 2013. Moosani said the MWS was expanding its welfare services including education, health care and medical assistance to several needy people.

He said the MWS had also helped pay the fees of needy workers during last year’s amnesty for illegal workers granted by the Saudi government, including transfers of sponsorship and renewing residency permits.

The vice presidents of the society, Younus Habib and Mansoor Shivany, thanked the guests for attending. Event management committee members Shoaib Sikander, Asif Lala, Wasim Tai, Nasir Ibrahi and A.Q. Teli were praised for organizing the event.
