A five-day awareness exhibition and conference organized by the Health Ministry concluded on Wednesday with tips on how to deal with emergency situations, administer first aid, handle rescue efforts and ensure child safety.

The conference was held under the slogan “You can be a savior” at the King Abdulaziz Cultural Center this week.

The five-day program was inaugurated by Sami Badawood, Jeddah Health Affairs director, in the presence of Health Ministry, Civil Defense, Red Cross and Red Crescent officials and coast guards, in addition to officials from other ministries, hospital personnel and journalists.

Badawood expressed honor at being able to organize the forum for the second time.

“Everyone should know how to administer first aid and handle emergency situations to avert calamity,” said Badawood.

“Health Ministry officials are keen on ensuring that every resident knows who to contact and what to do in such situations,” he said.

“Basic techniques can save lives. We hope to cover more topics in the future and will organize a similar awareness program in the Kingdom’s other cities.”

The forum also raised awareness on symptoms of food poisoning and diabetes and shared tips on eye care and beach safety, including how to treat bites and stings on the spot.

Attendees were also taught cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and what to do when confronted with mentally disturbed individuals.
