RIYADH: There will be more rain and cold weather over Riyadh today, with warnings of dangerous and slippery conditions on the roads and the possibility of flash floods.

The capital city’s skies were blanketed with dark and heavy clouds all of Thursday, accompanied by incessant rain, with temperatures expected to plummet to 5 degrees Celsius at night going into Saturday, according to the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment.

The traffic department has warned that motorists should drive carefully because of the dangerous conditions on the city’s roads. Traffic on some busy roads came to standstill Thursday due to the overnight rain.

The Civil Defense said people must avoid valleys and low lying areas because of the danger of flash floods. According to Riyadh Municipality, there are 70 areas where flash floods are a distinct possibility, with 20 in Hai Al-Nadheem neighborhood alone.

According to the General Authority of Civil Aviation, there has been no disruption of flights due to the inclement weather in Riyadh.
