A whopping 70 percent of medical practitioners who have committed medical errors over the last five years hold master’s and doctoral degrees, local media said, quoting a report released by the Ministry of Health.

More than a third of erring doctors were master’s degree holders, while just under a third held Ph.D.s and a fifth held bachelor’s degrees.

A total of 2,670 doctors were found guilty of malpractice over the last five years, with foreigners accounting for a staggering 87 percent of this figure.

Obstetrics and gynecology practitioners were found to be more prone to committing medical errors, followed by surgeons, internal medicine practitioners, pediatric specialists and nurses, the report said.

Practitioners working at the Ministry of Health’s facilities received almost half of all warnings and military medical facilities were implicated in over half of all forensic committee findings suggesting malpractice, the report said.
