RIYADH: The Shoura Council’s human rights committee has accused the National Anti-Corruption Commission (Nazaha) of failing to fight corruption in the country.

The committee stated in its report, which will be discussed in August, that the complaints to the Nazaha dropped from 6,052 in 2013 to 4,484 last year. The Nazaha had also handled fewer cases, from 2,622 in 2013 to 1,278 in 2014, local media reported.

Even though the Nazaha has stated that the drop is because of increased awareness among citizens, the committee said that the anti-graft body has failed to retrieve stolen public money. It said that the Nazaha has only recovered two sums over two consecutive years.

The committee also recommended that the Nazaha works with the Ministry of Education to ensure the values of integrity and transparency are inculcated in the minds of young people.
